Owned more than 5 years: 7.5% of the gain

• Sales of Rs 10 lakh or less pay no capital gains tax.
• Passing property to a spouse or children, and inheriting it, is not taxed. A later sale to someone else is.
• Companies and firms pay under different rules.
• Estimate only. The Land Revenue Office (Malpot) or your municipality has the final figure.
